Gene Martin has been a resident of Champaign County since 1980 after living in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa area for a brief period of time while his wife completed her Doctoral degree. Gene was born in Fort Worth, Texas and raised in northern Louisiana. Gene is the son of an Air Force veteran and is very proud of the service his Dad has given to his Country. Gene attended Parkland College in Champaign and earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration. While going to college, Gene was in the residential window and door business for 28 years. He was responsible for inspecting and troubleshooting manufactured products in regard to product liability cases. Gene has inspected homes in 35 states in the nation and is very familiar with the construction process and building codes affecting the residential and light commercial market. During the next chapter of his life Gene owned his own business as a troubleshooter and service provider oriented to windows and doors as well as servicing homes for a national manufacturer.

Gene obtained his license as a real estate licensee with Joel Ward Homes in December 2008 and intends to bring his knowledge and skills in the residential market aided with the skill and experience of Joel Ward, as the Broker, to help people sell their home when the time arises or find that special home that feels right the moment you walk in. Gene's promise to you is to give you the best service possible in selling or finding your home. Both honesty and integrity in assisting you will be his priority and is paramount to good business.

Gene is a current member of the Champaign County Association of REALTORS. Gene's grandfather was Kenneth K. Busey who was a local farmer in the Champaign County area for most of his life and whose family heritage dates back to the original settling of the Champaign county area.

Gene is married to Anita Martin and they have four children, Liz, Rose, Abbey and Zach. Anita has completed her Ph. D. in science education in 2008 and daughter Liz is in college studying to become a veterinarian. Rose will graduate high school in 2009 and plans to study cultural anthropology at a college yet to be determined. Abbey and Zachary are still school age with college years slightly ahead of them. Gene and his family enjoy fishing and camping. Gene also enjoys woodworking and playing music.
